About the Project
This project involves the strategic and planned burning of savanna areas during the early dry season to reduce the risk of late dry season wild fires.Recognised as a showcase for conservation in northern Australia. Marion Downs protects almost 6,000 square kilometres of the iconic Kimberley region.
Project Co-Benefits
Co-benefits include:
1) Local indigenous employment
2) Increasing the area of old-growth (ie, unburnt for at least three years) vegetation on Marion Downs from 3% of the property to 28% of the property
3) Reducing the proportion of the annual firescar on Marion Downs caused by late season fires from over 80% to around 23%
